  • 230 ml water at room temperature

  • 7 g salt (1 teaspoon)
  • 5 g sugar (1 teaspoon)
  • 1 vegan sausage for each bun
  • Tomato sauce
Recipe ingredient

Instructions

  1. Start by dissolving the fresh yeast in about 180 ml of water, reserving the rest.

    Recipe step
  2. Sift the flour into a large bowl.

    Recipe step
  3. Add the sugar. (If using dry yeast, omit this step, because you would already have used it.)

    Recipe step
  4. Pour the water with yeast into the flour and mix well.

    Recipe step
  5. Lastly, add the salt and the remaining water.

    Recipe step
  6. Mix very well until you have a smooth, even dough.

    Recipe step
  7. Cover the dough and place it in the oven with the light on for about 2-3 hours, or until doubled in volume.

    Recipe step
  8. Once fermented, remove it from the oven.

    Recipe step
  9. Place the dough on a floured surface. It will be quite sticky; that is normal. If necessary, sprinkle on a little flour to work the dough well, but not too much.

    Recipe step
  10. Divide into pieces of about 75-80 g. You will get 8-9 buns.

    Recipe step
  11. Knead each piece and form a ball by bringing the outer edges inward.

    Recipe step
  12. Then lengthen them to form the buns; they should be about 10-12 cm long. Pinch the seam of the dough and place it facing down.

    Recipe step
  13. Once this step is done, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them and place them in the turned-off oven for 1-2 hours, until they double in volume again.

    Recipe step
  14. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Warm a little plant milk and brush each bun so they brown. Bake for 15 minutes in the lower part of the oven; if they are too pale, move them to the upper part of the oven and leave them for another 5 minutes so they come out nicely golden.

    Recipe step
  15. Remove, let cool, and serve them with vegan sausages and your favorite sauces.
